Wireless Connection Signal Strength
- Wireless network refers to any type of computer network that is wireless, and is commonly associated with a telecommunications network whose interconnections between nodes are implemented without the use of wires.
- (Wireless Connections) Medium is the Earth's atmosphere, or space, and the signals are microwaves.
- a type of Internet access that does not require any wires or cables and allows users to browse the Internet while traveling or outside of their home or office without having a physical connection. Often a password is required to connect to a wireless network.
- In telecommunications, particularly in radio, signal strength refers to the magnitude of the electric field at a reference point that is a significant distance from the transmitting antenna. It may also be referred to as received signal level or field strength.
- refers to the total amount of power of RF received by the receiver. This is divided into useful signal, referred to as EC/I0, and the noise floor which is useless.
Windsurfer antenna in action
Here's the Windsurfer antenna in action. I'm running netstumbler on the computer, tracking the signal
strength of the
wireless connection. It has a claimed gain of about 9dbi, which seems believeable.
As you can see, the signal strength of the
connection can vary quite a bit, so it's a little difficult to quantify the improvement.
Antenna signal strength meter
Antenna Meter made by Johnson. 50 watts power and 50 ohms; it says. Don't know how it could be 50 watts in any way. No antenna for normal stuff (reception) needs that and would never be that powered. 50 volts I thought there for a second and was like "oh yeah that makes sense" but no. Not 50 volts............
